In an emergency situation, a visa could be issued to those who need to fly to India. Usually, this service is offered on a working day. The applicant is expected to provide, within the next 72 hours, evidence of an emergency and a verified and paid travel ticket.
This service is only available to Indian Origin persons who are required to produce their old Indian passports / surrender certificate / landing paper, etc. in order to benefit from this service. The Visa Officer can, at his discretion, issue a visa on a closed holiday-Saturday , Sunday or Gazetted Holiday-in cases arising from serious humanitarian, medical or death situations. In such situations, you would be asked to display a verified and paid air ticket showing same-day travel for the same day.
It will normally take 4 to 5 hours for the emergency visa case to be processed. Applications are usually approved by the High Commission between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM, and the visa is released at around 4:30 PM on the same day.
If you hold a passport other than a passport, it can take 3 to 4 days for you to apply for visas in an emergency situation.
